What does it take for a person to become a Christian?
There is only one way for a person to know Christ and that is to believe in Him by faith and ask Him both for forgiveness of their sins, and to become the leader of their life. This does not mean that Christians are perfect, it does mean that we have accepted the grace that God offers to everyone if they will only believe. Anyone can stand before God with their past forgiven if they will just ask Him. One of the clearest statements in the Bible of what it takes is listed below.
"If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved." Romans 10:9
Does Legacy Youth Ministry do any mission projects?
In 2006 we were active with ministries like the Project C.U.R.E., St. Vincent de Paul and others. These activities will be continue in 2007. We are also in the planning stages of an end of summer mission trip to work with other churches to stage VBS's in northern Arizona.
What do you do for fun?
We keep busy through-out the year going to concerts like the Rage Music Festival, Conferences like Dare 2 Share, particpating in Lock-in and other similar activities.Summer is almost here and we have some really great dates lined up. So be sure to watch our event's page to see what is current.
Who is City of Dreams?
City of Dreams is the youth band that leads us in worship on Wednesday nights. They also take the lead on the youth lead worship events that go on through out the year.
Why is your youth ministry named "Legacy?"
Christianity is not something that anyone should practice alone or keep to themselves. We should take what we have learned and pass it on to others like Moses did with Joshua, Jesus to the disciples and Paul did with Timothy. We want to always be aware of the fact that the measure of our walk is not limited to the things we did but the lives that impacted for God along the way.
Who can work on the youth staff?
The first requirement to work as a volunteer in our youth ministry is to have a growing personal relationship with God. Our belief is that you cannot pass on to others what you do not possess. In addition you must be a member of First Baptist Church of Mesa. In order to work with our junior high ministry you must have promoted out of senior high. In order to work with senior high students you must be 21 or older. There are other requirements to be on our youth staff including a background check, and finger printing. For information on these additional requirements please ask to see a copy of our youth staff manual and policies.
How about parent involvement?
We consider the relationship with the parents of our youth to be an invaluable assest to our ministry. The more active our parents are the better the ministry will be. Parents are invited to visit youth group at anytime provided they are not a distraction. In addition we send out a monthly information packet about upcoming events and hold quarterly parent meetings. For our special events where we need additional volunteers our preference is to involve our parents rather than turning to other sources. The most important influence in the spiritual life of a youth is not a youth worker they see for a couple of hours a week it is the influence of the parents that they see everyday.
